KIRK LIGHTSEY – ANTONIO SERRANO

Kirk Lightsey is one of the best exponents of the traditional Detroit jazz pianos style, alongside two great figures who are no longer with us: Hank Jones and Tommy Flanagan. During the 60s he worked in Detroit, his home town and in California, where he frequently accompanied singers, but it was fundamentally his work with saxophonist Sonny Stitt, with trumpet player and singer Chet Baker (with whom he recorded five albums) and with reputed saxophonists Dexter Gordon, plus his years in the group The Leaders (along with Lester Bowie, Chico Freeman or Cecil McBee) and his fourteen albums as leader of his own projects which bestowed upon him the stature of jazz giant. Antonio Serrano is the best harmonica player in Europe, along with Toots Thielemans, fantastic at jazz, and blues, but also flamenco, not in vain he was one of Paco de Lucia's favorite musicians. He is also an icon of Jazz San Javier, beloved and admired by our public. A production of the festival which has promoted the collaboration of the two jazz great for the enjoyment of all aficionados in Spain.
