Cimafunk is the stage name of Erik Alejandro Rodríguez, Cuban singer, composer, record producer and spectacular showman who is revolutionizing funk and contemporary and popular music in Spanish.
His name is a reference to the “maroon” condition of one of his ancestors, a fugitive slave who took refuge in the mountains and forests to be free, and which Erik claims as his vital inheritance. His music wisely mixes funk, blues, rumba, hip hop and the rich Cuban musical tradition.
Accompanied by his band called “La Tribu”, a group of fantastic instrumentalists and vocalists in perfect harmony with Erik's main voice, Cimafunk offers us one of his electrifying shows in his first concert at Jazz San Javier, one of the best that can be found today in funk on the entire planet.
We believe that the description he has earned as the Cuban James Brown is not at all exaggerated.
