A living legend of the tenor saxophone and one of the quintessential figures of Soul Jazz, Houston Person is also one of the best balladeers, and is revered by the fans of the tenor saxophone. Since his first album as leader, Underground Soul in 1966, under the Prestige Records label, he has recorded more than 75 albums, and of the living saxophone players is probably the one who has most conserved the warm and romantic styles which was begun by Gene Ammons, Illinois Jacquet, Hank Mobley or Ben Webster. In his second visit to San Javier after having performed with Rhoda Scott in Músicas del Alma in 2007, Houston Person will present an extraordinary sextet with the notable presence of the brilliant pianist and singer Dena Derose, the great trumpeter Jim Rotondi, one of the best in the New York Jazz scene, and also with the fantastic singer Kevin Mahogany, a most beloved musician in San Javier.
