The San Javier Jazz Festival has been declared as an event of National Tourist Interest by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, through the Secretary of State of Tourism. It is a festival that has brought the top names in national and international Jazz throughout its 21 year run. Additionally it has promoted the municipality of San Javier, the Costa Blanca, and the entire Region of Murcia. The councillor of Tourism and Culture, Miriam Guardiola, was pleased by this well deserved recognition. "This distinction will mean an important boost with repercussions for tourism for a festival that has consolidated itself as reference in the jazz genre."
The declaration of National Tourist Interest and International Interest is an honorary distinction that are awarded to events that suppose manifestations of cultural values and popular tradition, with special consideration to its ethnologic characteristics and that are of special importance as a tourist attraction.
SAN JAVIER JAZZ FESTIVAL
The San Javier Jazz Festival celebrated its first edition in july of 1998 and was created, promoted, organised and supported by the Ayuntamiento of San Javier since the first edition. Throughout the years some of the top names in international jazz and other genres like blues, bossa nova, funk, rock and blues have performed in San Javier. Musicians like George Benson, Pat Metheny, The Mavericks, Steve Vai, Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, B.B. King, Van Morrison, Wynton Marsalis, Eric Burdon, Michel Camino, Paul Anka, John Fogerty, Dianne Reeves, Toquinho, Maria Creuza and a long of others. All together some 2,000 musicians in about 400 bands have performed in the festival.
The pianist Chick Corea will receive the award of the San Javier Jazz Festival 2018, that will be given to him at the end of the concert that he will offer at the closing of the festival, on July 28, along with his legendary Trio, Akoustic Band with the bassist John Pattituci and the drummer Dave Weckl. This will be his second concert at the San Javier Jazz Festival, where Chick Corea performed in 1999 with the group Origin and the vibraphonist Gary Burton.
Chick Corea, one of the greatest pianists of his generation, who has won 20 Grammy awards, has a special feeling with Spanish music and has stated on many occasions that part of his heart is Spanish. Precisely, "My Spanish Heart", that gives name to one of his classic albums, served the Jazz Festival of San Javier to name the tribute gived to him two years ago under the title "Our Spanish Heart" that brought together some of the Chick Corea's closest jazz musicians in a well-remembered concert produced by Jazz San Javier, under the musical direction of bassist Carles Benavent.
Jazz San Javier announces the suspension of the Maceo Parker concert, scheduled for Friday, July 13, due to the cancellation of the Americab singer and saxophonist Spanish tour for reasons beyond the control of the Festival.
Maceo Parker's concert has been replaced with the one by British soul singer Zalon, who was the choir leader and vocal director of Amy Winehouse's latest album. Zalon started a brilliant solo career after the death of the soul diva, who has taken him to stages around the world earning a well deserved position among the referents of contemporary soul.
In Jazz San Javier he will be accompanied by a seven musicians band plus three vocalists with whom he will offer a concert in which there will be a selection of the great classics of soul, a tribute to Amy Winehouse and a third part with Zalon's own songs.
The new ticket price for the night of July 13, which includes concerts by Zalon and trumpeter and singer Keyon Harrold, goes down from 25 to 20 euros. The exchange or return of tickets already sold can be done at San Javier Festivals Office, located on the ground floor of the City Hall, or at the box office of the Parque Almansa auditorium, where the festival takes place.
Tickets and Season Passes for the XXI International Jazz Festival of San Javier are on sale from May 2nd. The purchase of individual concerts can be made directly from each concert page, as well as at the Festivals Office (968 19 15 88 or 968 19 15 68 - festivales@sanjavier.es), located on the ground floor of the San Javier Town Hall, where you can also buy the Season Passes, whose price is 120 euros and includes all concerts except Pat Metheny, which is sold separately.
